Mama bird was training her baby chickadees who got stuck by rain (too heavy to fly) in the back of our truck. We discovered them after some travelling time when we got to work.... heard chirps from the bed of the truck. Picked them up and put them on the back seat on a towel. After they dried up they flew around a bit, hung out sitting on us, etc. Pretty cool. Drove back home cancelling our to-...

    What year is the motor and how many hours did it have before the cracked block? I wonder if Yamaha fixed the water drainage issues in later models?

    • @westvandude
      @westvandude 3 місяці тому

      The video was made shortly after purchase so was a 2013 or so I'd guess. That boat and motor is sold long time ago. A lot of yamaha outboards have issues with either water freezing or salt buildup in coolant passages. The older F225's and maybe F250's had the exhaust passages rot out that run from block to the leg. It's important to pull out and inspect or replace the zinc anodes bolted into the block. What's difficult in cold climates is having motor tilted vertical for draining. Nobody wants to leave their leg in the saltwater. I'm not sure if later ones fixed the drainage issue. There are also special salt-removing rinse chemicals that may be useful to deal with the salt buildup in the cooling passages. I recall the two-part flywheel had to be replaced under warranty every 400hrs, if it came apart it snapped the crank. It sure ran nice before we had issues tho. New boat has twin 300hp v6 yamahas.

    Why did the glycerol solidify at the base of the vessel in BIODISEL?

    • @westvandude
      @westvandude 7 місяців тому

      If you use sodium hydroxide instead of potassium hydroxide you need to pour off the glycerol the next day. If you wait a few days the glycerol will go solid. When you make soap from fats sodium hydroxide makes hard soap bars, potassium hydroxide makes liquid soap. You may be able to get the solid glycerol out of your processor by turning on bottom heat.

      If you are neutralizing extra caustic that might work. If you have emulsion issues you can use vinegar or salt diluted in hot water to break an emulsion. Sorry I haven't made any biodiesel for a few years now so I'm out of experience.

    I had a Hyundai Generator 2000si and had the same problem. After spending 3+ hours on it and I am pretty mechanical inclined, it won’t start so I dropped it off at a local lawnmower repair shop to see what they could do. Well $150.00 later they couldn’t get it to run. And I thought there’s goes a chunk of money for nothing plus out a generator. Good thing the campground has electric hookups which is away from the peace and quiet.

      My HY3200SEi started just fine when I got it new but after a few uses it just refused to start, even after draining the float bulb and filling it with new petrol. I suspect there might be a problem with the stepper motor on the carb that closes the choke flap when the engine is cold. Rather than mess with this, though, I thought I'd try EasyStart spray and I drilled a small hole in the air filter cover so I could inject it using the "straw" that came with the spray. The result was an instant start and no more problems!

      I sold it about a year ago unfortunately. The ratchet style wrenches can work good. But if you use a k&n oil filter they have nut welded to the top of the filter so use a socket to remove. More convenient. www.amazon.ca/TOYMIS-Adjustable-Filter-Removal-Replacement/dp/B0C32MX68M/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=TMQGKTDMA2HF&keywords=oil+filter+wrench&qid=1684181225&sprefix=oil+filter+wrench%2Caps%2C141&sr=8-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUE3VVNOTjFNMk1JQ1gmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA3MzY4NzgxRE1JS042RUFaRlY1JmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA4OTgwMjkzN01CRkJDV01GU0w0JndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

    OK the hard oil the coconut oil and stuff to use it melts down but when it cools off doesn't it get hard again I mean you pour that into your fuel tank how are you going to keep it liquified you're gonna have to heat it up

    • @westvandude

      True, using bacon fat to make fuel it's hard at 9degC. Coconut oil melting point once it's turned to biodiesel is probably higher. Blend with petrodiesel or run only in summer.
